Tracey Oliver Personal Profile

I’ve always been interested in sport and physical activity, as a teenager I was a very successful middle distance runner also competitive in Track and Field events and Trampolining to name but a few.

In 1990 I started studying in sport and recreation and have never looked back. Health related activity is my passion. To help build a person’s confidence and physical well-being through activity is the most rewarding profession I could ever imagine being in.

I was employed by Wrekin District Council Leisure Services, during my time with WDC I carried out roles such as Duty Officer, Health and Fitness Coordinator, School Leisure Assistant, Instructor in various classes and managed the children’s activity programme. I successfully gained recognised qualifications in instructing exercise to music, step, slide, circuit training and gym, teaching children’s health related fitness, coaching and judging in Trampolining & body massage.

During this time I helped set up the pilot scheme for the Whizz Kids programme that still runs in schools today. I also supported and ran classes for Telford Tickers (cardiac support group).

In 1995 I moved to Lifestyle Fitness in Shrewsbury as Manager of the Aerobicentre and Assistant Manager of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Exercise for Health Centre. In 2001 I was promoted to Manager of the Exercise Centre.

During my time at Lifestyle I gained vast experience and qualifications in exercise referral schemes and have been accredited by Shropshire and Telford Activity Referral Scheme (STARS) since 1998.

I was responsible for advising, assessing and prescribing physical activity in the cardiac rehabilitation programme within the Hospital, the GP referral scheme and to staff members. I prepared and delivered the practical element of cardiac rehabilitation circuit training to Physiotherapy students and post graduates, at Keele University and on in-house instructor courses for 6 years. I also set up and delivered the GP referral programme for the Healthy Living Centre at Mayfair Community Centre, Church Stretton.

On a daily basis I carried out health and exercise consultations and inductions, I advised and wrote home and specialist training programmes for both sports specific and rehabilitation purposes.

I pride myself on keeping up to date with all aspects of the health and fitness industry and my Continued Professional Development (CPD). I am an enthusiastic and motivated person dedicated to assisting people enhance their well-being and influence positive lifestyle changes.
