Something for the Kids

It’s due to modern technology and other changes in society trends that………………

Playing in on play stations is the new playing out, getting up to turn the television over is a thing of the past.

"And who walks to school or makes dens in the woods nowadays anyway? "

As a result of new wave technology and modern conveniences we have developed a nation of sedentary children.

Bring back good old fashioned play time and fun activities!

TOP Tots

The back ground

TOP Tots was developed by the Youth Sport Trust, a registered charity committed to bringing sport to life for young people. It aims to introduce simple games to children aged 18 months to three years. The youth Sport Trust has created TOP Tots as the first of a series of progressive programmes offering children the opportunity to develop a range of physical skills and to help them be active in the future.

The sessions

All the activities are designed for a child and a helper; they can be modified to cater for more than one child per helper, although numbers are restricted due to guide lines and health & safety standards. The activities encourage children to play alongside each other or work independently, and children that don’t always participate still learn from watching and digesting what’s going on around them.

Each activity can be made easier or harder this makes the activities different, more accessible or challenging.

Opportunities of fun, enjoyment, development skills and success are given within the framework of the learning programme.

The areas covered in the early learning framework for physical development are:

  • Basic motor skills – moving around in different ways (mobility)
  • Spatial awareness – knowing where you are and what shapes your body can make
  • Co-ordination and control – physical control and balance
  • Aiming, predicting and estimating – rolling, throwing and aiming

These areas will encourage development in personal, social, emotional, linguistic and creative skills establishing positive attitudes to activity and a healthier lifestyle.
